Becoming a Troop Leader

Your Step-By-Step Guide to Becoming a Troop Leader.

Please keep in mind that all paperwork must be approved, and all training must be completed prior to meeting with girls. You will be notified when the application process is complete.

Step 1:

Fill out a volunteer application. We will contact the references you have supplied, so please prepare them! Once you submit the application, you'll complete our thorough background check process, which can take 4-6 weeks. In the meantime, check out our Policies and Procedures to find out more!

Step 2:

Register as an adult member of Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains.

Step 3:

Complete the Girl Scouting 101 Online Course. This 45 minute video covers Girl Scout basics and the newest information about the Girl Scout program. Note: this course is not available on mobile devices at this time. 

Step 4:

Once you are approved and have completed Steps 1-3, complete the Volunteer Essentials Course. Volunteer Essentials is typically presented by a Community Learning Coordinator, who will contact you to set up this training. You can also try out our NEW Volunteer Essentials Online Training Module

Step 5:

Complete Troop FUNdamentals. This course takes approximately 3 hours, and is held in locations around GSGWM. We're adding new options all the time- find one convenient for you at the link above.

​Step 6:

Get excited! Pending approval, you're now a Girl Scout Volunteer!


Additional Courses: 

CPR/First Aid: You'll need this to take your girls on a trip or go camping.

Outdoor Adventure Workshops: Required to take girls to experience the outdoors.

Basic Outdoor Living Skills (BOLS): Required to take girls camping overnight.
